Durham, NC | 125,000-SF
An 125,000-SF addition to unite patient amenities and services with Duke’s experts and world-class ophthalmology research. The expansion enhanced patient experience with more seating, centralized testing and photography areas and facilities designed to facilitate shorter wait times. The project, which is LEED® Silver certified, also included a covered drop-off area that connects the new facility to the parking deck and a new outdoor courtyard.
Duke Health, Duke Eye Center Expansion
About this project
Roanoke, VA | 400,000-SF
$94 million, 400,000-SF hospital consolidation. The project consisted of raising the South Tower from the 10th to the 16th floor. This addition houses a NICU department, pediatrics department, a LDR wing and the mother/baby area. The consolidation also consists of a new addition to the ED/OR wing. This expansion included six floors with an expanded emergency department, a new kitchen, dining space, maintenance space, a new OR suite and a new drive up and walk in entrance to the hospital. This project also consisted of $15 million in renovations throughout the existing hospital.
Carilion Clinic, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Consolidation
About this project
$185 million, 307,000-SF, eight-floor heart and vascular hospital with 114 patient rooms, ICU; cath labs; cardiac and hybrid operating rooms; cardiac rehabilitation area; and spaces for academic programs, heart-healthy cooking demonstrations, panel discussions and staff education. The project also included a 17,000-SF central energy plant, 400-car parking deck, helipad and site infrastructure. Design-assist and prefabrication saved three months on the schedule and $10 million.

UNC Health Rex, Heart and Vascular Hospital
About this project
$81.9 million, 104,000-SF expansion and renovation of a hospital on an active campus. The project scope includes a 63,700-SF two-story vertical expansion to house med surg nursing unit with observation rooms and critical care ICU beds and NICU rooms. Renovations include a new in-patient and retail pharmacies, a 24-bed mother-infant unit and nursery, MRI suite, physician's dining and central plant upgrades.

Hillsborough, NC | 315,574-SF
$164.7 million, 315,574-SF new hospital campus on an 45-acre greenfield site that includes a 241,574-SF patient tower and diagnostic and treatment building with 50 acute care beds, an 18-bed ICU, six operating rooms, two procedure rooms, support spaces and an emergency department. The project also encompassed a 60,000-SF medical office building, a 14,000-SF central energy plant and 1,161 parking spaces.

About this project
$143 million, 640,000-SF, 15-story children's hospital with 72 exam rooms, emergency services, clinical space, shell space, a surgical area and imaging and lab services. The project also included a 57-foot excavation and the installation of a complex shoring system to accommodate a four-level, underground parking deck, which spans almost an entire city block. The project is LEED® Silver certified.

VCU Health, Children's Hospital of Richmond
About this project
A 500,000-SF patient bed tower located on a tight site between two existing buildings. The project consists of an 13-story building with a total of 350 patient beds including medsurg and ICU rooms, isolation rooms and bone marrow transplant rooms and cath labs. Pedestrian connections to the existing bridge connector occur on multiple floors and the building traverses over the existing Dietary Addition Building.

Chapel Hill, NC | 324,000-SF
$154.5 million, 324,000-SF hospital facility and 105,000-SF physician's office building. The hospital facility contains outpatient clinics, 50 inpatient hospital beds, a laboratory, a radiology center with three linear accelerators and a cyberknife, a pharmacy, ancillary services, chemotherapy infusion center, radiation oncology center, education facilities, patient support services, and a variety of other services and programs. The physician's office building is located across the street, and contains conference rooms and other staff support areas. A pedestrian bridge crossing two streets spans the buildings and connects to an existing parking garage.

Charlottesville, VA | 444,000-SF
$330.5 million, 444,000-SF hospital expansion and 90,000-SF renovation which includes $21.5 million of enablement work that was completed before the project started. The project encompassed the development of a six-story inpatient tower with three patient floors, three shell floors and a rooftop helipad. Levels G through 2M includes expansion of the current emergency department onto the adjacent site; expansion of the surgical services suite; and ancillary and new drop off entries into the emergency department for ambulance and ambulatory patients.

Chapel Hill, NC | 390,000-SF
$338 million, 390,000-SF new seven-story surgical tower, which included extensive sitework and utility relocations. The tower includes a basement level and will house 26 operating rooms, two hybrid operating rooms, 59 pre- and post-operating rooms and two floors of ICU space with 80 beds. Skanska also constructed two overhead pedestrian bridges over a busy thoroughfare, a three-story service connector and performed renovations to the existing Ambulatory Patient Care Facility.
