Why this project matters
The $390 million, 289,000-SF, seven-story annex building and critical care unit on the west side of the campus connects to the existing Tower Pavilion. It houses 18 operating rooms (including three hybrid rooms with advanced imaging) and 132 intensive care rooms. Areas of care include organ transplant, neurosurgery, cardiac, colorectal/gastrointestinal, orthopedic, and vascular surgeries. Hybrid spaces combine traditional operating rooms with image-guided interventional suites for complex procedures. The building also features a high-end lobby, family waiting areas, decentralized nursing stations, staff support spaces, and a ground-level parking garage.

Why this project matters
$142 million, 144,000-SF addition that quadrupled the size of the hospital’s emergency department (ED) with six new operating rooms; an interventional radiology suite; and a multispecialty medical practice offering primary, specialty and urgent care. The project included 36 ED bays, eight observation beds, an ambulance bay, and imaging suite. It also encompassed five additional elevators to reduce congestion, renovations to the entry and lobby area, and HVAC and MEP system upgrades.

Why this project matters
Skanska collaborated with NYC Health + Hospitals and FEMA to convert three hospital floors into a permanent, 120-bed ICU in just 90 days, tripling the hospital’s ICU capacity for managing COVID-19 patients. Delivering this many ICU beds in such a short time was unprecedented and required extensive expertise, collaboration, and leveraging of relationships within the regional subcontractor and vendor community. A critical component included procuring multiple air handling units (AHUs) in six weeks to meet the tight schedule. Through effective value management and procurement efforts, additional funds were available to add more AHUs, upgrade the oxygen farm, and create new administrative spaces.

Why this project matters
$59 million new center, located on the same 100-acre parcel as the Mullica Hill campus project, brings together medical, radiation and surgical oncologists, creating a new, comprehensive support network in South Jersey. The Leading-Edge Cancer Center has multiple settings for patients to receive infusion therapy, including traditional private treatment bays, extra quiet private treatment rooms and a large shared space. The center also brings the latest treatment options, including clinical trials, to the campus, as well as consultations with surgical oncologists and cancer risk assessments.

Why this project matters
New $170 million, 137,000-SF outpatient cancer center will be a freestanding five-story building designed to provide cutting edge cancer care on the Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center campus. The facility will provide innovative outpatient cancer treatment, including 52 exam rooms, private infusion rooms, a compounding pharmacy, two new linear accelerators, with space for a third, an MRI/LINAC and supporting imaging suites including MRI, CT and CT sims. The scope also includes a new parking garage.

Why this project matters
$177 million, 166,000-SF, six-story new building located at their satellite campus in Brooklyn. Programming included an emergency department, surgical suites, pharmacy, exam rooms, support offices, and a full-service satellite cancer center with radiation oncology and advanced imaging. The radiology department includes state-of-the-art equipment including CT, MRI, nuclear camera, x-ray, ultrasound and mammography. The emergency department also includes its own dedicated CT and x-ray rooms.

$173 million, 280,000-SF, eight-story Ambulatory Care Pavilion included a new ambulatory operating room suite, imaging center, lobby, physician office space, entry canopy for patient drop off and new rooftop MEP units. Also included was the build-out of interior spaces and expansion of the existing parking lot.

Why this project matters
Full renovation of a new 4,000-SF CPEP. Work included six patient rooms, nurse station, and meds/supply rooms. Electrified glass, VAVs, sliding doors, millwork, and psychiatric hardware.
