This 130,000-SF addition and renovation will more than triple the size of the existing emergency department (ED), making it one of the largest EDs in the nation and the busiest ED in Miami-Dade county. Upon completion, the project will add 207 rooms, including 50 observation rooms and seven patient rooms, improving patient flow and reducing ED wait times. The new ED will use a split flow model for patient care - lower acuity patients who can remain sitting will be treated in one area while higher acuity patients requiring a bed will be treated in a separate area. Existing radiology services will remain uninterrupted throughout construction.

Orlando, FL | 663,000-SF
This seven story, free-standing pediatric specialty hospital was constructed on a 60-acre greenfield site in Orlando’s Medical City development. The 400,000-SF in-patient portion of the facility includes 95 private patient rooms, an OR Suite with five operating rooms, two special procedures rooms, one IR room, an Imaging department with MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, and two R/F rooms, full food service facilities, lab and pharmacy. The 200,000-SF clinic includes 85 exam rooms that support the Nemours physician staff practice, as well as an education center with conference facilities and a 225-seat auditorium. Mechanical services are provided by an onsite central energy plant that is sized to provide for the eventual build-out of the campus. A 900-car parking garage provides parking for staff and visitors on the campus.

Our project scope included renovations to inpatient and outpatient areas including PICU, NICU Levels II and III, pediatric step-down units, oncology, hematology, medical surgical nursing units, pediatric sub-specialty center, administrative areas and campus infrastructure work. In a subsequent phase, we completed a further 17,356-SF of renovation and a 5,000-SF vertical expansion. We coordinated closely with all parties to schedule each of the six renovation phases to minimize disruptions to patients and staff, and helped the Hospital maintain its high rating for patient satisfaction through construction.

Fort Myers, FL | 416,000-SF
Skanska began working with Lee Health in 2006 to develop Gulf Coast Medical Center into a premier healthcare destination in Southwest Florida.
Most recently, we completed a four-year project touching every side of the hospital. We delivered 367,000-SF of new construction, 48,500-SF of renovation and added three new floors to the existing four-story structure, along with multiple horizontal expansions. A parking structure for 1,300 cars was also included.

Tampa, FL | 207,000-SF
Skanska provided design-build services for this new $68 million, 207,000-SF state-of-the-art six-story outpatient treatment facility located on the McKinley Campus in Tampa. The facility contains outpatient surgery (with associated sterile processing), four operating rooms, procedure suites, clinics for Moffitt’s Breast and Cutaneous Departments, as well as imaging, lab and pharmacy space, infusion, and clinical research. The facility also offers patient and family support, educational spaces and a cafe. The sixth floor serves as shelled space for future growth. The project also included a seven-story parking garage with 1,250 spaces.

Orlando, FL | 375,000-SF
Skanska recently completed the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute—a two-building, 375,000-SF healthcare facility in downtown Orlando that includes a medical pavilion and outpatient surgery center. As one of the only orthopedic-specific hospitals in the Southeast, the new facility offers unparalleled comfort and ease for patients – from arrival through departure. A key aspect of enhancing the patient experience was the integration of cutting-edge technology systems in both patient rooms and operating suites.
Orlando Health, Jewett Orthopedic Institute
Why this project matters
This 540,000-SF, nine-story hospital expansion provides 216 new inpatient beds; an outpatient clinic; and 16 new operating room suites, which include five hybrid operating rooms, two CT scanners, two MRIs, an iMRI, catheterization labs, EP labs, general radiology, fluoro, ultrasound, support space for materials management and a loading dock. The project also includes an eight-story, 212,000-SF parking garage that accommodates up to 700 cars.

UF Health, Shands Heart & Vascular Hospital Expansion

Cape Coral, FL | 11,190-SF
Skanska completed this vertical expansion over the active hospital to deliver 12 new ICU beds along with staff support areas. The new ICU wing features an innovative "Pandemic Mode" which enables the new addition to turn into a negative pressure wing. We closely coordinated with hospital staff to maintain safety on the active campus.

Lakeland, FL | 575,000-SF
Skanska completed the phased development of a new 575,000-SF hospital on a 80-acre greenfield site. This community hospital will include 306 beds with space for future expansion, an emergency department, examination/treatment rooms, ICU, operating rooms, lab and imaging space. The site will also feature a modularized central utility building to supply mechanical, electrical and plumbing services to the main facilities.

The state-of-the-art space unites the four institutes of treatment, education, research and advocacy in one building. Labs for bench and translational research, facilities for a pediatric biorepository and a biomarker discovery center are housed in the facility. Our team also constructed a 400-person auditorium, imaging and examination areas, 50,000-SF of office space, collaborative areas and an enclosed air bridge.

This new 293,000-SF seven-story patient tower and 74,055-SF of renovations met a critical community need for increased pediatric treatment capacity. The project include a Category 5 hurricane-resilient patient tower and pavilion with a large ER, 160 patient beds, imaging rooms and more. Site access roads and underground utilities were reconfigured to accommodate access to the new pavilion.
